An international group of scientists conducted research on the health status of astronauts who were sent on long space flights

Long space flights, according to researchers, can cause serious health problems. It is believed that they can provoke a reverse outflow of blood.

The study was conducted with the participation of 11 cosmonauts, who on average had been on the ISS territory for about 6 months, reports “HIITEK” with reference to a publication in the JAMA Network Open journal.

It is noted that the astronauts underwent ultrasound examination of the vessels of the head before the flight, on the 50th and 150th day of the space travel, and also 40 days after their return.

It turned out that seven respondents found congestion and blood clots, and some had episodic reverse blood flow in the internal jugular vein - the largest vessel that carries blood from the skull.

According to the researchers, the problems arising with vessels in space appear due to the lack of gravitation familiar to humans. She, in turn, disrupts the distribution of fluids in the body and affects the movement of blood.
