At the Discovery Hut, built by polar explorer Robert Scott in 1902 on Ross Island in Antarctica, they examined a bag of red onions over 100 years old.

According to the Antarctic Heritage Trust’s Facebook page, one of the artifacts examined at the Discovery Hut hut (built in 1902 on Ross Island in Antarctica) is a large sack of red onions. It is indicated that he lay there without attracting much attention for more than 100 years in the corner of the hut since expeditions to Antarctica at the beginning of the last century.

It is reported that one of the foundation’s specialists carefully examined the bag and did not find mold. The onion, as indicated, is wrinkled and deformed, but at the same time it is quite clear that this is it - and moreover, that it is the red onion.

Annual checks of artifacts, including their shooting, allow you to evaluate how well the hut responds to measures to preserve it, and identify potential problems.
