The smartwatch was equipped with a dual-screen strap. To this, engineers from the Dresden Technical University went to increase the useful area of the gadget.
As a control sample, a pair of smart watches from Samsung was used. The standard straps were disconnected from them and replaced by straps assembled in the laboratory, with electronic ink screens or a monochrome OLED matrix,
reported on the CHI 2020 conference website.
The second screen is controlled using an Arduino-compatible microcontroller and an external computer. German engineers also presented many variations of the interface for the smart strap. In some models, the strap is a full-fledged continuation of the smart watch, in others it is a passive source of information (shows time or notifications).
According to the statement of researchers from the Dresden Technical University, the adaptation of the owner of the watch to such a strap is quite fast.
