Robotic hand coped with the game Super Mario: a new development of scientists

A team of scientists from the University of Maryland, led by Franz D. Sochol, designed a robotic arm. This development is not unique. Similar devices already exist in the world. But Ryan D. Sochol's manipulator has been significantly improved: it is not as heavy, easier to control and much more efficient than the prototypes.

An alternative device was 3D printed. The soft hand is equipped with 3 fingers, each of which is able to move independently of each other.

This is due to the compressor, which supplies air to the hand through a rubber hose. Air pressure control is performed by 3 transistors.

When changing the pressure level, the user can activate any of the fingers individually. When the air supply is suspended, all 3 fingers assume a neutral position.

Scientists conducted a series of experiments during which they pressed the buttons of the Nintendo controller with a robotic hand. The device successfully coped with the passage of the level in the game Super Mario Bros.

The engineers involved in the development of the hand expect their device to be useful in many areas of life. For example, as surgical instruments and rehabilitation devices.
