Dell and Wistron have been working on an interesting project for several years – gold mining from parts of old devices. As part of the project, all recycled gold is reused when creating new Dell devices. For example, in laptops Latitude 5285 possible to detect the precious metal taken out of obsolete circuit boards.
The procedure consists of two stages. At the first stage, the waste is brought to the Wistron Green Tech plant, where the metal is extracted through chemical procedures. In addition to gold, experts re-use silver and copper. On average, the company processes annually 13 thousand tons of waste, which are brought from the USA and Europe.
The second stage includes the shipment of plastic to China. This material is also recycled and then sent to Dell partners. In the coming years, the company plans to expand the number of materials that can be reused.
