Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter received images of places on the planet Mars, where, presumably, a new SpaceX spacecraft, Starship, will be able to land.

SpaceX is developing a new spacecraft called Starship. Along the way, she is working on a Super Heavy rocket accelerator. These projects will allow, according to SpaceX executives, to fly to the surface of the Moon and Mars.

In the period from June to July 2019, the NASA Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter probe, located in the orbit of Mars, recorded parts of the planet - applicants for the spacecraft landing site Starship. These pictures are in the public domain.

“The search for a suitable landing site on Mars for SpaceX has been carried out using HiRise since 2017: they were initially carried out for the Red Dragon conceptual mission, and then, after SpaceX changed plans, for Starship,” said mission specialist Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter Alfred McEwen.

The expert drew attention to the fact that the Martian region of Arcadia is interesting as a landing site for the “starship”. There are not only volcanic, but also flat surfaces. Pictures taken by NASA Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter show mostly stone-free areas.
