An advertising campaign for the FX-8000/9000 processors based on the Bulldozer architecture turned out to be unreliable, so the court fined AMD millions of dollars.

Since 2011, AMD has built its advertising company on the fact that the processors that it produced have full 8 cores. But instead, there were 4 dual-core modules with a common cache and coprocessor. Each digging module was counted for a pair of separate cores. However, customers did not agree with this interpretation: they even decided to challenge this in court.

In 2015, buyers of AMD FX-8120, FX-8150, FX-8320, FX-8350, FX-8370, FX-9370 and FX-9590 processors filed a class action lawsuit against AMD. They claimed compensation for misrepresentation. Also, users were unhappy with the additional insurance that had to be paid when buying a processor. So to speak, for product innovation.

Of the $ 12.1 million that the court ordered AMD to pay customers, $ 3.63 million will be spent on legal costs, from $ 350,000 to $ 700,000 will go to administer the agreement, and from $ 7.77 million to $ 8.12 million will go to compensate customers. This right can be used by all buyers of processors on the official website of AMD and those who purchased them in retail stores in the state of California. Presumably each of them will receive $ 35.
