Tesla's battery expert, a professor of physics from Halifax, Jeff Dan, said that Tesla's electric cars will soon be equipped with new batteries. These electrical elements are expected to have an extended life cycle.
According to the scientist, the announced batteries will be able to withstand up to 6,000 charge-discharge cycles. The batteries that are installed in modern electric vehicles are designed for 1600 cycles.
New batteries will increase the length to 1.6 million km. This will ensure that you use the same set of batteries for multiple machines. And this saves on battery manufacturing and recycling.
Among other things, new batteries will maintain efficiency with a discharge cycle of 0-100%. In comparison with modern batteries, which cope best with a discharge cycle of 20−80%.
According to manufacturers, the new batteries will appear not only in Tesla electric vehicles, but also in car sharing and unmanned taxi services. In other words, in those vehicles that travel long distances every day.
The release date for the sale of new batteries has not yet been announced.
