Amazon's press office announced its intention to buy more than 100,000 electric delivery vans from Rivian's startup company.

The order of the vans was carried out as part of the program to achieve a zero balance of greenhouse gas emissions. By 2040, Amazon plans to purchase more than 100,000 electric delivery vans from Rivian. Their deliveries will already begin in 2021.

Rivian has not yet launched commercial production. The factory will be located in Normal, Illinois, USA. By 2024, Amazon plans to launch all the cars available by this year.

Rivian is a startup company that was founded in 2009. In November 2018, she presented two electric models - the R1T pickup truck and the R1S all-terrain vehicle. But it attracted Amazon’s interest even earlier. It was primarily about investing.

As part of the investment, Rivian received about $ 1.9 billion, including $ 700 million in the February investment round led by Amazon.
