You do not often meet people who are completely and completely devoted to their hobby. 44-year-old American devoted his life to creating compositions from matches.
American Patric Akton was born in Green County, Iowa, USA, and grew up on a farm near Rippy. He always showed interest in making various items with his own hands. When he bought a bicycle in his childhood, a couple of weeks later the engine from a lawn mower was already standing on it. As a teenager he built a treehouse with heating and windows.
In 1977, Patric Akton began experimenting with matches. He tried for the first time to create a sculpture. At that time, he had just graduated from college and built his first model from matches - a mini copy of the local church. Subsequently, his hobby brought him greater fame than the official work in the consulate.
When Patric Akton found out that there were headless matches, it significantly accelerated his work. After all, before that, he spent a lot of time cutting them with an office knife. The man used the time saved to develop new match sculptures.
Today, the master’s account has more than 60 detailed match patterns, each of which consists of 400 000-600 000 matches. It takes 2-3 years to create each. But every year he starts a new project. For example, for a model of Notre Dame Cathedral, a man used 298,000 matches, 2,000 toothpicks, and as many as 55 liters of glue on wood.
