Near the Earth flew an asteroid the size of a skyscraper
On October 25, a giant asteroid flew near our planet. Two days earlier, on October 23, his flight was captured by a specialist from the Virtual Telescope Project.
This is a celestial body whose diameter is estimated at about 440–990 meters. In connection with this and the fact that he approached the Earth at a fairly close distance, NASA identified him as potentially dangerous.
The department’s experts consider all asteroids whose orbits approach the earth to a distance of 7.8 million kilometers and which are at least 140 meters in diameter.
On October 25, the 1998 asteroid HL1 flew at a distance of 6.21 million kilometers from Earth. On this day, he made the closest approach to its surface.
