Employees of the Museum of Fine Arts of the city of Rennes (Brittany) were able to find out what is inside the ancient Egyptian cat mummy without opening it. Over the course of many centuries, the body of the animal has dried up and mechanical opening could lead to the destruction of the contents.
The artifact that was once discovered in Egypt is now in the collection of the Rennes Museum of Fine Arts.
The procedure for studying it took experts a long time. First, x-rays were taken, then, based on them, 3D-models of the content. And they have already been investigated using augmented reality technologies. As a result, scientists were able to see elements that were previously not distinguishable on x-rays.
It turned out that there was not one cat skeleton inside, but three almost whole tails and five hind legs. The reason why these remains were buried is still unknown. Probably, it is associated with some religious customs.
