Sophie Dries, a well-known French architect, came up with the design of an apartment in the Haussmann era in Paris for customers who needed color and unusual details.

The architect combined two rooms of the 19th century into a single space. In it, she managed to combine street art and color blocking. Previously, it was two different structures built during the major reconstruction of Paris by Osman. The result was an apartment of 100 square meters for a family of four.

The new layout includes the lobby, entrance hall and kitchen in the center of the apartment, from which you can get into the living room and bedroom. The architect to the maximum opened the doorways and simplified the room. This was done in order to increase the spaciousness of the room.

“We had to respect the Ottoman spirit of eaves, fireplaces and parquet floors, but with a new layout,” the architect explains. “The Ottoman style has been refined and trimmed to introduce minimalist lines that are better suited to the modern family.”

Different rooms used different color palettes. They contrasted with the interior details painted in plain white. Some places are reinforced with textiles, curtains and carpets.

Each color in this apartment was not chosen by chance: it corresponded to the works of art placed inside. The owners are collectors, so the work of artists such as Banksy, Invader and Johnon, are hung everywhere.

“As in the architecture of the old building, the furniture must be used by a modern family, so it must be functional,” continued the author of the project. “This is not a museum.”
