Tesla has patented a technology that uses lasers to clean glass (instead of the usual wipers), as well as to clean external cameras and solar panels on the roof.

The patent application in question was filed by Tesla in early 2019; the document was published only now. The technology described in the patent is called "pulsed laser cleaning."

It uses lasers - instead of wipers - to clean glass, and also to clean external cameras and solar panels on the roof. According to Tesla, this technology will quickly detect contaminants and automatically eliminate them.

It is assumed that in good weather it can be effective, but how the technology will cope in rain and snow is unclear. It is also important that the lasers will be directed towards the driver and, possibly, can serve as a greater obstacle when driving a car than ordinary wipers.
