Time magazine decided on "Person of the Year." This title was received by 16-year-old resident of Sweden Greta Thunberg

The Person of the Year, a title awarded annually by Time magazine, was awarded to an environmental activist from Sweden. The 16-year-old girl became famous after her speech at the UN General Assembly.

The shortlist included four people who were involved in the investigation into the impeachment of US President Donald Trump. It was Trump himself, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, the personal lawyer of the American President Rudolf Giuliani, as well as the anonymous denouncer, who began the investigation of the impeachment case, reports Gromadska TB.

Also on the shortlist of Time were the head of China Xi Jinping, the Prime Minister of New Zealand Jasinda Ardern, the head of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg, the American football player Megan Rapino, the 16-year-old Swedish eco-activist Greta Tunberg, as well as the protesters in Hong Kong.

The Swedish activist became famous after her harsh speech at the UN General Assembly in September. Then she accused world leaders of inaction and unwillingness to deal with the problem of climate change.

A year ago, the activist stopped attending school on Fridays, and instead began to go out with single pickets to the Swedish parliament, demanding to reduce the level of greenhouse gas emissions in the country.

Her “school strike in support of climate” has become a social movement for schoolchildren and students across the globe.
