Scientists at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University in the United States have identified products that can cause insomnia, according to The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. To do this, the researchers studied the diet of more than 50,000 postmenopausal women, comparing their diet with reviews of sleep quality.

It turned out that the occurrence of insomnia is affected by foods containing a large amount of refined carbohydrates - added sugars, white bread, white rice and soda - which increase blood sugar and thereby stimulate the production of insulin. In turn, it can lead to the release of hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol, which can disturb sleep.

The senior author of the study, Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor of the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University, James Gangwish, emphasized that the information received is quite universal and can be used to disturb sleep in most people. The use of vegetables and whole fruits (not juices) should help in the fight against insomnia without the use of medicines.
