Kawasaki launched the first ship to transport liquid hydrogen.

According to the company's management plans, liquid hydrogen will be produced in the process of gasification of brown coal at a plant in the Australian Latrobe Valley, and the destination will be the Japanese port of Kobe, New Atlas notes.

Liquid hydrogen is used as environmental fuel for hydrogen stations. But its production and transportation are extremely environmentally friendly. They lead to the emission of 100 thousand tons of carbon dioxide per year.

The problem with the transportation of this substance is that the liquid hydrogen molecules are so small that they are therefore able to seep through the gaps in the atomic structure of a metal container at temperatures above -253 ° C. Until recently, there was not a single vessel that could transport liquid hydrogen.

The length of the Suiso Frontier is 116 m; a vacuum tank is installed in it for transporting 1.25 thousand cubic meters of liquid hydrogen. During transportation, hydrogen will be compressed 800 times compared to its normal volume and will be cooled to -253 ° C.

Recall that the United Nations plans to reduce the maximum speed of ships of international delivery by 20%. This is associated with the environmental situation in the world.
