Scientists from Stanford University conducted a study in which they studied the regularity of the size of this mammal from its strategy for food production.

Sensors were attached to more than 100 individuals, which made it possible to monitor mammals for almost ten years, reports Popular Mechanics.

According to scientists, the large size of the whale allows it to spend less effort during the extraction of food. They made this conclusion based on an estimate of the energy used and received in 13 species of whales.

For example, the size of killer whales that use echolocation to search for food is limited by the amount of food they can get when immersed. But this rule does not apply to blue whales. Their size is not limited by the degree of availability of food.

Physiologist at Stanford University Jeremy Goldbogen believes that over the past 5 million years, whales have become larger and the blue whale has become the largest creature on Earth.

The large size helps these mammals get even more food. They can travel further, traveling long distances and spending less energy.

Earlier research on cats was reported. It turned out that their facial expressions are available for understanding only 13% of people. But scientists do not lose hope that this figure can be increased over time.
