In the new models, the German brand is actively breaking stereotypes - cars are switching from a rear-wheel drive platform to a front-wheel drive, and the crossover becomes rear-wheel drive. That, in particular, will be the upcoming production electric BMW iX3.

Production of the model will begin in 2020. The electric car will receive a 286-horsepower engine, a 74 kWh battery, which will provide a range of at least 440 km. The novelty will be equipped with a fifth-generation BMW eDrive power unit, which combines an electric motor, transmission and power electronics in one housing.

The electric crossover will be exclusively rear-wheel drive and single-engine. Modifications with two engines and all driving wheels are not planned. At the same time, BMW separately emphasized that with the release of iX3, the BMW X3 family will be the first in the history of the brand, available both with a traditional ICE (gasoline or diesel), and in the form of a rechargeable hybrid and a fully electric version.

Recall, the BMW iX3 concept car was introduced in 2018 at the Beijing Motor Show. Currently, brand engineers are working on tests of a serial electric car before launching it in production, which will be established at the BMW Brilliance Automotive factory in Shenyang, China.
