Walking along the beach of the county of Somerset in the company of two dogs, John Gospill discovered strange bones that attracted the attention of animals. He contacted the Museum of Natural History and stated that he had found the remains of an ancient creature washed ashore by the surf. John is certain that these bones belonged to an ichthyosaur - a prehistoric marine predator.

“I often find fossilized remains of ammonites on the shore, I have my own small collection. But my instinct told me that this time the extraction was much more serious. It is believed that ichthyosaurs lived from 250 to 90 million years ago - I am sincerely surprised that the bones were so well preserved,” Gospill shares his experiences.

By the way, literally the next day, on the same beach, one of the dogs, Poppy, dug a stone from the ground, which also turned out to be a fragment of a fossil for verification. John himself believes that his luck is due to stormy weather - due to heavy rain and wind, part of the soil was exposed, and with it prehistoric remains.
