SplashData has published an annual list of the worst passwords of the year based on data leaks from Internet services. As in the previous six lists, the most popular password was 123456, the company said in a press release. A complete list of 50 passwords is published on a separate page.
Today, popular online sites store a large amount of confidential user information. For example, many search services store all search queries, and also offer to upload files and photos, which makes them an attractive target for attackers.
Moreover, since most people use many different services at once, many of them do not use complex passwords and often use the same password on different sites.
As a solution to this problem, companies introduce requirements for the minimum length and content of characters in the password, but these requirements are often easy to circumvent.
The first password from the list - 123456 - has been topping it for the seventh year in a row. The second place this year has changed: password has moved to fourth place, and instead the second most popular combination was 123456789.
