Scania presented a conceptual unmanned truck that does not even have a cab for the driver.
Unmanned trucks without a cab are not a new idea; So, in June of this year, it was reported that Volvo Trucks began using such machines - Vera trucks - on public roads in Gothenburg, Sweden, for transporting goods (vehicles are remotely controlled and can travel at a speed of no more than 40 kilometers per hour). Now Scania has shown a truck without a driver's cab - for now, however, in the form of a concept.
The concept truck was called AXL. As indicated, it is equipped with cameras, lidar, radar and GPS; according to Scania, the “brain” of the concept is an intelligent front module that uses data from sensors. Given the design, such a truck is supposed to be used in quarries and large construction sites.
Whether Scania is going to launch a similar truck in a series in the future is not reported.
