Terracotta warriors were discovered by Chinese archaeologists in the tomb of the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang. A total of 220 sculptures were found.

During excavations that have been going on for more than ten years, archaeologists have uncovered a crypt with a total area of ​​400 sq.m. Inside were discovered 220 terracotta warriors, 12 ceramic horses, weapons and other artifacts, according to HiTech.

Chinese researchers managed to find bows, crossbows, quivers, arrowheads, swords, scabbards, battle shields, wands, as well as elements of chariots.

According to experts, about 6 thousand statues of people and horses can still remain in the tomb. The total number of terracotta army is about 8 thousand clay figures. They were made life-size to guard the tomb of the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang.

It is noted that all uniforms of warriors are authentic, and their facial features are detailed and individual. It is assumed that the sculptors wanted to give portrait resemblance to the models.

The terracotta army was discovered by locals who dug an artesian well in 1974. Excavations began in 1978. They took place in several stages: the first — 1978-1984, the second — 1985-1986, the third — 2009 and to the present moment.

In 1987, the burial complex of the Chinese emperor became the first object in the PRC, which was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
