Artist Morris Hirschfield is an example of the fact that you can devote your life to your beloved business even from adulthood. He always wanted to learn the art of painting. And for this, his time appeared only in retirement.
It seems to many people that in adulthood it is impossible to learn something new. No one will approve the result and the efforts that will be applied for this. But this does not always happen. In particular, with this person, writes Big Picture.
Morris Hirschfield was born in 1872 in Poland. At 18, he emigrated to the United States, began to work there as a tailor and shoemaker. Later, together with his brother, they created a sewing factory, which produced coats and slippers.
After retiring in 1935, a man who was very far from creativity, got bored. He wanted to come up with a lesson, a hobby. And he remembered the long-standing desire to learn how to draw. Holding on to brushes and paints, Morris Hirschfield began to paint.
He portrayed women, cats, tigers and lions. Moreover, these paintings resembled drawings made by children. They lacked perspective, shadow. But the works of Morris Hirschfield still had a certain charm of primitive art, as in the art of primitive tribes.
Four years after retirement, two of his paintings were exhibited at the New York Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), and two years later his personal exhibition of 30 paintings was also held there.
After himself Morris Hirschfield left 77 works. Most of it is in the collection of the New York MoMA and in the National Museum of Art Nouveau in Paris, in the vaults of the Museum of Modern Art and in a large private collection.
