A return to disco, glamor, tactility and “coconut” at home today inspires some designers. The louche and marquetry design trend signals the style of the 1970s.

The new Clippings internet furniture platform report on trends signals a return to 1970s-style interiors and furniture. The return to the louche design of the 1970s, which dominated nightclubs, and the resurgence of marquetry (a kind of mosaic on wood) are among the trends that have appeared at this year's international design shows.

Clippings Interior Design Trend Report 2018 looks at projects, furniture and design products from this year's design fairs in Milan, New York, Copenhagen, Paris, Stockholm and London, and identifies five dominant aesthetic topics. One of the number one trends noted is a return to 1970s design, as shown in the surreal interior of the secret Studiopepe Club Unseen, a new project created for 2018's Salone del Mobile.

A return to the experimental design glamor of the 1970s, heavily dependent on the atmosphere of discos and the bold art of the time. This new mood in interior design manifested itself at several presentations in Milan, including a collection inspired by a disco presented by designer Gufram and the surreal club of secret members of Studiopepe. Both of these projects have saturated the decade with bold patterns saturated with flowers and surreal details.
