The El Ateneo Grand Splendid Bookstore is considered one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world and the most beautiful in Latin America.

This outlet is located in the heart of the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires. It attracts tourists and locals not only for its appearance, but also for its history, writes Bigpicture.

Initially, until 1920, the Teatro Grand Splendid Theater was located in this building, in which many grandiose performances took place. One of the permanent residents of the theater for a long time was Carlos Gardel, considered one of the main figures in the process of the formation of tango.

By the middle of the last century, the theater was replaced by a cinema, which worked until 1991. By the beginning of the 2000s, they decided to demolish the building. Thanks to the inspiration of the architects Pero and Torres Armengol, the building was turned into the largest bookstore and preserved the historically valuable architecture and murals of the building.

Instead of chairs, bookshelves were placed in the former cinema hall. In the former boxes, visitors to the store can sit in armchairs and leaf through their favorite books. There are cafes on the former stage. The decoration of the theater, in particular the frescoes on the ceiling of the Italian artist Nazareno Orlandi, wooden carvings, a red curtain and theater lighting are preserved in their original form.

Another transformation was written earlier. Royal London Hospital, large training hospital in Whitechapel, a few years ago it changed beyond recognition. A group of 15 local artists decided to make it a colorful and fun place in which children are not familiar with a sense of fear.
