The National Aeronautics and Space Administration announced the end of the competition for the best name for the fifth rover. The rover will be called Perseverance — "Perseverance."

The name for the fifth rover, which they plan to launch in July-August 2020, was invented by the American seventh grader Alex Mater of Virginia. Its option was chosen from 28 thousand applications, according to the website of the department.

As a reward, NASA experts will invite Alex and his family to launch the rover, which will happen from Cape Canaveral.

It is assumed that the device will collect samples from Mars and fall on Earth. Such successes cannot be achieved without two main factors — curiosity and perseverance.

American students came up with names: they sent about 28 thousand essays on the topic of interplanetary travel. Of these, 155 names were selected first, then 9. As a result, they chose Perseverance.

The other eight names that made it to the finals: Endurance (Tenacity), Promise (Promise), Vision (Vision), Clarity (Clarity), Ingenuity (Ingenuity), Fortitude (Courage) and Courage (Courage).

Prior to this, NASA experts said they plan to deepen the drill InSight space probe drill in Martian soil. They will press him so that he goes deeper and does not jump out. In addition, they will fill the well with soil to improve traction.
