Artists Tony Fero and Helena Juan united with a creative idea to encourage people to stay at home during the coronavirus pandemic using Photoshop. As part of his project called “Send them home”, the duo masterfully removes characters from famous paintings and photographs, as if to show that these people also stayed at home.

“The Send them home initiative offers you to send characters from the art world to their homes in order to raise awareness of the need for #stayhome,” says Helena. “More than 50 artists have already joined the project, contributing to try to make people aware of the need to act responsibly.”

Artists publish their posts on Instagram - this is a carousel with a photograph or other recognizable work of art, followed by the same photograph or work of art with deleted people. The next frame is a message urging the user to stay at home.

“We wanted the audience to be the main characters of this project,” says Helena. “Using the carousel feature on Instagram, we enable users to “send characters home,” just by swiping left."

OXO introduced it to another photo project earlier. Photographer and graphic designer Dmitry Burrio from Nantes removes abandoned buildings, but he is especially interested in castles.
