The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has transferred a team that manages the Curiosity rover to remote mode in connection with the coronavirus. Now experts are studying the surface of the planet from their homes.

The programming of the rover is 20 people. And it is very important that they are in close proximity to each other for the necessary correction of the operation of the rover. All teams are tested on special models, according to the agency’s website.

Engineers who were transferred to remote work received all the necessary equipment. However, not all equipment was able to be transferred. Specialists have to use ordinary red-blue 3D glasses instead of special 3D glasses that work with top-end graphics cards.

NASA began the gradual transfer of its employees to a remote format in connection with the coronavirus in March. But the engineers who are testing the operation of the rover, began work at home only now. This is due to the specifics of their work.

“Usually we were all in the same room, exchanging data from screens, images and other information. Employees talked in small groups and with each other in a single room,” says Alicia Allbau, Head of NASA's Curiosity.

Recall that last month on the coast of New Zealand the next tests of the missile pickup system for which two helicopters were involved — the first dropped a rocket stage, which was then parachuted and picked up in the air by a second helicopter.
