MIT students recreated their Minecraft campus. According to them, during a pandemic, they can gather there at least virtually.
A group of MIT students created a server in Minecraft and built a virtual campus for their university, preserving all the details and especially important places for them. This project is inspired by other initiatives of US universities - for example, UPenn and Brown, who also created virtual buildings.
Students explained the project that they could not get to the university because of the pandemic. The virtual building will allow them to gather in places to which they are accustomed, and spend time together there.
Colleges and universities across the United States sent students home and switched to distance learning for the remainder of the semester. MIT switched to distance learning after the student passed the positive test for COVID-19, while others did it in advance. Now many educational institutions plan to continue their studies in the fall of 2020.
