The Ford archives found four photographs taken May 2, 1966 at the walls of the Ford Design Studio in Dearborn. The photos depict a prototype of a Mustang mid-engined sports car, but none of the brand’s employees, as well as historians and Ford experts, could determine what kind of car was photographed.
Ford archivist Dean Weber, after finding the pictures, contacted journalist John Clor and PR specialist John Clinard, both of whom specialize in Mustang models, but none of them could recognize the car.
Further search of information among current and former designers, engineers and top managers of Ford did not help shed light on the mysterious car - it is similar to the concept cars Ford Mustang I, Ford Mach 2 and Ford Allegro, but it is not.
As a result, Ford specialists despaired of learning the history of the car on their own and turned to fans of the brand with a request, if they know something about the mid-engine prototype based on the 1966 Ford Mustang, to send information to
[email protected] inbox. If the information turns out to be reliable, the brand promised to reward those who provide the data.
