On April 29, a huge asteroid 1998 OR2 will approach Earth. The object will approach our planet at a distance of 6.3 million km, but is not dangerous.
1998 OR2 - near-Earth asteroid from the Amur group, its diameter is 4 km. This is the largest potentially dangerous asteroid known to science, but it can come too close to Earth only on a scale of the next hundreds or thousands of years.
April 29, the object will approach our planet at a distance of 6.3 million km - this is relatively far. For example, in June 2020, Venus will approach the Earth at 43 million km.
"The minimum distance to the Earth during its flight will be about 6 million kilometers (20 times the distance from the Earth to the Moon). Therefore, talk of any consequences of its flight is unlikely to have any basis," the scientists noted.
According to astronomers, in 2079 the object will approach the Earth by 2 million km, in 2127 - by 2.5 million km. Moreover, its orbit does not intersect with the orbit of rotation of our planet.
