Belgians are asked to eat more french fries to help farmers.

Belgium is a major potato producer, and fried potatoes with mayonnaise are Belgian's favorite street food. But quarantine did much harm to the industry: 750,000 tons of root crops accumulated in warehouses. Part of the surplus can be used as biofuel for electricity, but this will not solve the problem.

The head of the union of potato producers urged fellow citizens to eat french fries more often - not once, but twice a week to help the industry survive.

In mid-March, restaurants in Belgium and many other markets for potato growers closed. The abolition of many Belgian spring and summer festivals added to their problems.

“Thus, part of the potato broth will continue to be used, and we will not be able to see excellent food for which our farmers worked so hard, being lost,” said Flemish Minister of Agriculture Hilde Crevits.
