Scientists from the University of Binghamton have developed a metal that is capable of mutating, as is the case in the movie "Terminator 2". The created metal mesh can be transformed into anything.

The world's first liquid metal grate is made of Field metal — an alloy of bismuth, indium and tin. It becomes liquid at a temperature of 62°C. While the melting point of iron is 1538°C. Field's metal is quite expensive, so it is used exclusively in high-tech industries. About this writes Additive Manufacturing magazine.

To create the liquid metal, researchers combined Field's alloy with a rubber sheath. They did this through a hybrid manufacturing process that uses 3D printing, vacuum casting, and conformal coating.

“The shell frame controls overall shape and integrity. We spent more than six months developing this production process because this new material is very difficult to process,” says Chinese scientist Pu Zhang.

It is assumed that liquid metal will be used in the space industry. Designs created from it can be packaged in relatively small containers and transformed into orbits.

Recently, the Hubble telescope showed how Atlas comet splits into parts. The object was supposed to be the brightest in the last 20 years, but fell apart on approach to the Sun.
