The lost world, according to archaeologists working on the coast of South Africa, is the mainland, which is now hidden under water or land. They found a plain previously used as a safe haven for ancient people. Now it is hidden by the sea.

A recent study showed that a vast plain was once located on the southern coast of the continent. And to reach the coast, it was necessary to overcome about 90 km. It was a feeding environment for early modern humans. About this writes "Popular mechanics".

Scientists studying the southern coast of Africa often come across evolutionary finds. However, they experience certain difficulties regarding their identification. After all, most of the local landscape, which was used by ancient people, is now under water. Therefore, it is very difficult to get to the finds: because of the tides and high waves.

The study involved high-resolution climate models. Then, the results were used to recreate vegetation on the plain. Also, archaeologists had to turn to marine geophysics, deep-sea diving, isotope research. These methods were used to recreate and adjust the coastal model.

An earlier study by Swiss scientists showed that over the past 100 years, the diversity of food plants for insects has declined sharply. This means that bees, flies and butterflies are gradually losing their food supply.
