Abandoned spa resorts in Japan — a hobby of the photographer Janine Pendleton. A woman travels the world and removes the once popular places that are now abandoned. A few decades ago, these Japanese baths with hot springs from underground waters were filled with vacationers.

Janine Pendleton in her next project showed the collapsed bath rooms of one of the spa hotels in Japan. He was abandoned nearly 30 years ago due to the greed of his owners, writes Boredpanda.

Japanese hot spring baths — onsen — have always been popular. Both tourists and locals loved to enjoy them. The atmosphere of the Japanese spa is relaxing and comfortable. Vacationers took baths in the open air, admiring the picturesque views and enjoying green tea.

Since the 1940s, the spa industry has experienced a real boom: hotels and spa complexes have been built. Up to 3 million visitors came here. But greed has played a trick on Japanese developers. They began to save money on everything, which influenced the after-sales service. This, in turn, led to a reduction in the number of visitors.

Many hotels and spa complexes in popular resorts, without visitors, were forced to close. This and neighboring SPA have since been abandoned for 30 years, like a monument to the greed of developers, and are gradually being destroyed.
