All new models of the Swedish brand from the factory will receive a maximum speed limiter.

Most modern cars have a regular maximum speed limiter at around 250 km / h, but Volvo decided in 2020 to equip all new cars at the factory with a speed limiter that does not allow acceleration faster than 180 km / h. According to the Swedish automaker, this will increase road safety and reduce the number of dead and seriously injured in road accidents.

“We are convinced that the automaker is responsible for improving road safety. Our speed limiting technology, as well as the discussion around it, is fully consistent with this belief. Speed limiter and Care Key help people remember and realize that speeding is dangerous. And at the same time they provide additional peace of mind, support more responsible behavior of drivers,” said Malin Ekholm, head of the Volvo Cars safety center.

In addition to a full-time speed limiter, new Volvo cars will receive a Care Key system that allows the car owner to set stricter maximum speed limits on his own if he intends to drive one of his family members or an inexperienced driver.
