Ford taught cars to disinfect themselves from coronavirus (Video)

The Ford brand quickly responded to the coronavirus pandemic and improved the Police Interceptor Utility, introduced at the beginning of 2019, created on the basis of the latest generation of the Ford Explorer model. Doctors and scientists from Ohio University took part in the work on the machine.
The principle of operation of the new system is simple - when the engine is running and there are no people in the cabin, the climate system starts to warm up to a temperature of +68 degrees Celsius and when this value is fixed at all points of the cabin, it is maintained for 15 minutes, after which the climate control starts to reduce the temperature in the cabin is comfortable.
Representatives of the Department of Microbiology at Ohio University explained that their studies showed the destruction of 99% of all bacteria and viruses in a car after 15 minutes warming up to +56 degrees Celsius, but for guaranteed disinfection of the interior, the indicators were increased to a higher temperature. While the climate control is in the process of disinfection, the machine informs others about it with a special mode of lighting technology.
Ford emphasized that they were forced to create such an option by the special regime of the American police - crews, if there are no free ambulances, often come for medical calls and transport patients to the hospital. In addition, there may be detainees infected with coronavirus in the cabin. Given this and the difficulty with mechanical disinfection of the car’s interior, the company decided to find another solution to combat COVID-19.
