Astronomers using the eROSITA telescope have introduced a new x-ray map of the starry sky. It is reported by DT with reference to the Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics of the Max Planck Society. It is noted that on the map collected more than a million objects.

Thus, scientists were able to actually double the number of known x-ray sources discovered over 60 years of observation. Most of these sources are the active nuclei of galaxies, inside which supermassive black holes grow.

Scientists note that the eROSITA telescope conducted observations of the sky for 182 days. As a result, he managed to get deeper images than the ROSAT telescope 30 years ago.

The map helps determine the location of hot gas in the Milky Way, as well as in the intergalactic space that surrounds it.
