The moon helps to control the seasons and regulates the Earth’s climate, maintaining a stable axis of rotation of our planet. The existence of the satellite is incredibly important, but nevertheless, scientists still do not know exactly how it appeared.

Recent studies have helped to understand the composition of fine dust, which is located at the bottom of the craters of the moon. Using a special radar, scientists conducted its analysis and found a high concentration of metals at different levels of occurrence, writes "Popular Mechanics."

The fact that there are metals on the moon defies the notion that it was part of the earth's mantle and crust, thrown into orbit. According to scientists, large deposits of metals may mean that you need to consider other versions of the satellite.

“By improving our understanding of how much metal actually is in the bowels of the moon, we can narrow the list of options for how it was formed, how it evolves and how it helps maintain habitability on Earth. Our solar system has over 200 moons. Understanding the role that satellites play in the formation and evolution of the planets around which they revolve can give us a deeper understanding of how and where living conditions outside the Earth can be formed and how it can look,” commented the authors of the study.
