Twisted Automotive has announced the start of production of electric versions of the original Land Rover Defender.
In 2019, the premiere of the second generation of the Land Rover Defender SUV took place. At the same time, there are still a lot of cars of the previous generation in operation, and some owners resort to tuning their Defenders and now it can be turned into an electric car.
Founded in 2001, the British company Twisted Automotive specializes in the refinement of the Defender. The company's specialists can both change the exterior of the car and modify its interior, as well as install a new engine - the program also includes modifications with a V8 from the Chevrolet Corvette Z06, and now a version with an electric motor.
For the Land Rover Defender EV variant, Twisted Automotive offers two engines - 217bhp and 324bhp, which are paired with a standard all-wheel drive system. The powerplant and battery elements were developed by British craftsmen in collaboration with the Dutch company Plower, which works with electric vehicles.
The components of the electric power plant are located under the hood instead of the standard internal combustion engine, as well as under the vehicle floor and in the sills, and the installation of the elements does not require body modifications. As noted in Twisted Automotive, if necessary, the electric SUV can be turned back into a version with a gasoline or diesel engine.
The short Defender 90 comes with a 60 kWh battery, while the long Defender 110 and Defender 130 have a more capacious 84 kWh battery, but the range of 320 km without recharging is the same for all SUV variants. Twisted Automotive is ready to convert any Land Rover that the client has into an electric car.
