The possibilities of the latest generation smartphones seem to be limitless. The definition of the degree of intoxication has now been added to their list. This is the conclusion reached by scientists from Stanford University.
The researchers conducted an experiment, during which they found out that
smartphones are able to determine when their owner has overdone alcohol. Moreover, devices can do this based on gait analysis.
The experiment involved studying the gait of 22 middle-aged adults. They were given drinks with alcohol, which they had to drink for about seven hours. At regular intervals, they walked ten steps. At the same time, the smartphone that recorded the movement was in their pocket.
The phone measured acceleration, sideways, up and down, back and forth. These data were needed to analyze the degree of alcohol intoxication.
Scientists plan to use the results of the experiment to develop special applications. In their opinion, these programs will help reduce alcohol consumption, as well as prevent driving after taking it.
