The probe of the US Department of Space Exploration will pass near the surface of the Sun. He will break his own record for closest to a star. Thanks to this, scientists will be able to receive more detailed information about it for their
research.
The spacecraft will be 1.5 times closer than in the last flight. This is about 13.5 million km at a speed of 466 thousand km / h. This will be the sixth flight since the launch in 2018.
As it rotates, the probe gets closer and closer to the Sun. This summer, Venus's gravity was used for the rendezvous, which allowed it to "work" on its trajectory.
As the spacecraft approaches the Sun, scientists hope to see what was previously hidden from their eyes. After all, the ascending cycle increased the activity of the star, allowing it to be observed from a new angle.
At the moment, "Parker" is collecting information about the outer layer of the solar atmosphere. Scientists are targeting primarily the solar wind - a stream of charged particles that are released from the star's crown.
