The world map in the form of a huge tapestry was woven by a young artist from Portugal Vanessa Barragao. Her work is a symbol of the collaboration between Heathrow Airport and the Royal Botanic Gardens.

The tapestry created by the artist is a six-meter canvas depicting a map of the world. With the help of threads, she managed to show not only the land surface of all continents, but also the expanses of water. This is a spread map where even the most remote parts of the planet have found their place.

Vanessa Barragao spent nearly 520 hours creating her tapestry. She used several looms for this. On one of them, she made the basis, on the others - the individual elements of the composition. In particular, the continents and some elements of the body of water.

If you look closely at the texture of the tapestry created by the Portuguese artist, you can see both smooth loops and volumetric patterns. The girl decorated some areas of land with floral ornaments.

While working on this project, Vanessa Barragao learned a lot from her past. The girl was born in the south of Portugal, surrounded by the endless ocean and amazing nature.
