The hobby of the artist Ekaterina Panikanova is creating illustrations on the pages of vintage books. The images that appear on slightly faded "canvases" become a kind of bridges to the past.
For her works, the artist uses old magazines that have long been written off to waste paper,
books and atlases from various fields of knowledge. Amazing images invented by Catherine can be found in psychology textbooks, romance novels, natural science posters. They often resemble modular paintings that create a single whole from pieces.
There is often an unspoken connection between the subjects invented by the artist and those written in books. In some situations, Catherine uses marginal notes once left by readers, or the content of the publications themselves. Although there is no obligatory binding to the essence of the "canvas" and the final work.
As for the compositional plan, the work of Ekaterina Panikanova is a cross between a collage, a modular painting and an installation. Nevertheless, each person has his own opinion on this matter.
