The American company Boston Dynamics has provided its robotic dog Spot for research in Chernobyl. The device tested the background radiation in different areas of the city.

Spot checked the level of radiation in the territory of the nuclear power plant, as well as in those places where nuclear waste is localized. During the study, the robotic dog used a gamma spectrometer, neural and hyperspectral scanners. Air support was provided by unmanned aerial vehicles.

In the course of research, nuclear waste specialists received a volumetric image of the contaminated area, as well as images of the areas most exposed to radiation. They plan to use these materials in their further work in the fight against environmental pollution.

A year ago, almost 150 four-legged robots entered the use of various companies. The main task of this event was to test Spot in the field. Based on the data obtained, the researchers were able to correct the new firmware version, focusing on the built-in cameras.
