MIT Launches System for Building Robots (Video)
MIT experts presented a system that allows you to create robots of various shapes. At the heart of each of them was the study of the details of the terrain in which they would be used.
The essence of the development is reduced to the generation of a robotic body model by the system. Moreover, this is done in automatic mode with adjustment to the landscape. It takes into account possible obstacles that may affect functioning.
This system is planned to be used, first of all, in space exploration. After all, it is there that the adaptation of devices to existing conditions is important. And also to unforeseen situations associated with changes in the terrain - rescue operations during emergency situations.
According to the lead author of the research, all robots are approximately similar in design and functionality. They are tailored to perform certain actions. They usually imitate people and animals. Unfortunately, this is not always useful.
The new system proceeds from the opposite with the only limitation - the recreation of robots. As for specific examples, in one of the simulations, where the terrain was rough, the design of the model duplicated a crocodile.
At this stage, research on improving the system continues.
