Smoking during pregnancy is dangerous. Earlier it was believed that e-cigarettes are not so harmful for expectant mothers. But British scientists have denied this.
The researchers analyzed the health status of children whose mothers smoked conventional cigarettes during pregnancy and their
electronic analogs. They found that "abnormal reflexes" were observed in both groups.
By "abnormal reflexes", scientists understood the impossibility of grabbing an adult's finger from a baby, fear when the contact of an adult's hand with a child was interrupted. In their opinion, this may indicate impaired brain development.
According to the lead author of the study, nicotine has a destructive effect on the body of the unborn baby. And first of all, his central nervous system suffers.
And given the amount of nicotine in e-cigarettes, the researchers recommend not to abuse them for pregnant women. Especially in the early stages.
The study was reportedly not extensive. Therefore, many more tests will be required for the results to be as reliable as possible. Nevertheless, doctors must now warn expectant mothers about the dangers of electronic cigarettes.
Children whose mothers smoked during pregnancy had a greater number of "abnormal reflexes" in contrast to children of non-smoking mothers.
