Ural scientists have proposed an alternative way to use wastewater. They decided to create ceramics out of them, and also use them in the construction industry.

The essence of their innovation lies in collecting sludge from wastewater, grouping it, drying it and using it as a material. They use waste from treatment and water treatment plants.

Scientists were able to artificially freeze the sediment. For this, special refrigeration units were used. Although icemakers are used on an industrial scale. The water crystallized, at the same time the compaction process took place, and after thawing, the liquid drained.

The authors of the study, along with the theoretical component, checked everything in practice. They applied the technology to one of the simplest building materials, brick. The researchers concluded that the use of wastewater can save time on drying bricks, reduce the number of rejected blocks and increase its density.

It has been noted that precipitation is produced at the outlet where the water content reaches its limit. Estimated volume is almost 5% of the total capacity of the water treatment plant.

The scientists also said that they tested the data obtained empirically in the laboratories of several industrial enterprises that specialize in the production of ceramic blocks and bricks. Theoretical calculations completely coincided with practical experiments.

In the future, scientists plan to continue research in this direction. They hope to find other uses for sewage sludge.
