Honda plans to equip motorcycles with drones
Globally renowned Honda Corporation has applied to the Office of Patent and Trademark Office for a patent for a motorcycle with an integrated multicopter.
Today, most often drones are used to record the current situation from the airspace, as well as to deliver various items. In most cases, these aircraft do the work themselves. But there are projects in which drones act as part of a larger object or vehicle. So far, such ideas remain at the concept stage. But engineers do not stop their attempts to combine the multicopter and other mechanisms into a single functioning system.
Based on the patent filed by Honda, it is clear that the multicopter is located at the rear of the motorcycle. It is covered with doors that automatically open when the drone takes off. As conceived by the authors, the propellers of the mini-helicopter move, therefore, if necessary, it can be easily folded and unfolded.
The project engineers described several potential areas of its application. For example, one of the tasks of a drone is to study the traffic situation. The owner can send the gadget in flight so that he collects information about possible traffic or accidents on the road. Such information will help the driver to significantly save time. The device will also deliver a charged battery if necessary. And it will even perform the function of a signal repeater.
But the most unusual use of a drone that the creators have proposed is for cooling a motorcycle engine. The multicopter, while remaining on the vehicle, begins to unscrew its propellers. Thus, it additionally pumps air through the front air intakes.
It is worth noting that Honda was not the first to propose a project for the construction of hybrids from several vehicles. Earlier, Ford engineers put forward a proposal for the use of multicopters as car emergency beacons.
